چکیده

The work presents an analysis of the dynamical response of a buried pipe under seismic excitation. The pipe is assumed to be of finite length and theWinkler model to schematize soil-structure interaction is considered. With reference to the boundary conditions of end-constrained pipe the axial motions are discussed. Careful numerical integrations are performed in order to prevent undesirable oscillations close to the discontinuities. The main result emphasized by the numerical analysis is that end-constrained finite length pipelines are subject to strains greater than infinite length pipes, or free-end finite length pipes. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. A Continuum Shell-beam Finite Element Modeling of Buried Pipes with 90-degree Elbow Subjected to Earthquake Excitations

In the current work, the seismic analysis of bent region in buried pipes is performed, and effects of soil properties and modeling methods on pipe’s response are investigated. To do this task Beam, Beam-Shell Finite Element modeling and a Continuum shell FE models of a 90 degrees elbow are employed. In the Beam model, the pipe is simulated by beam elements while combined shell-beam elements a...

Wave Motion and Stop-Bands in Pipes with Helical Characteristics Using Wave Finite Element Analysis

Pipes are widely used in many industrial and mechanical applications and devices. Although there are many different constructions according to the specific application and device, these can show helical pattern, such as spiral pipes, wire-reinforced pipes/shells, spring-suspension, and so on. Theoretical modelling of wave propagation provides a prediction about the dynamic behavior, and it is f...

Evaluation of seismic responses of earth dams in the steady-state seepage (a case study: Shamil Dam)

Considering the high seismic potential in most parts of Iran, the importance of studying the behavior of earth dams under earthquake loading, especially in the southern regions, is very important due to the number of these dams and seismicity of the Zagros mountain range. In recent years, many studies have been performed on the effects of earthquakes on earth dams, but these structures exhibit ...

A STUDY ON NONLINEAR BEHAVIOR AND SEISMIC DAMAGE ASSESSMENT OF CONCRETE ARCH DAM-RESERVOIR-FOUNDATION SYSTEM USING ENDURANCE TIME ANALYSIS

In the present paper, nonlinear behavior of mass concrete simulated by smeared crack model is combined with Endurance Time Analysis (ETA) method for studying seismic response of arch dams. ETA is a time-history based dynamic pushover procedure in which special predesigned intensifying acceleration functions are used for analysis and estimation of structural responses in various performance leve...

تحلیل خطوط لوله دریایی تحت بارگذاری ناشی از انتشار موج زلزله و حرکت گسل

Oil and Gas offshore pipelines, often pass through large geographical areas, from the supply point to the end-user, crossing seismic-active areas. For unburied pipelines, both seismic ground wave and permanent ground deformation can cause severe damage to pipelines, depending on the pipeline geometry and connected structures. Due to the largely non-linear nature of the problem, a finite element...
